Therapeutic Tai Chi In-a-Chair© by Gary Paruszkiewicz, CSME, includes Integrative Qigong© Forms, adapted for performance while seated. The programs have been developed with input and guidance of medical rehabilitation specialists, physical and occupational therapists, T'ai Chi Chuan teachers and Yoga instructors to be beneficial for people of almost all ages and degree of ability. The goal of the Therapeutic Tai Chi In-a-Chair© programs is to offer a means achieving a routine of daily physical activity as recommended by most medical doctors, for people who may have standing and/or balance issues. Therapeutic Tai Chi In-a-Chair© was introduced by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in 2004, and was featured at the annual “MS Camps” and “NMSS Wellness Workshops” around the Midwest for the next four years. The routine has been successfully presented nationally and regionally to the Illinois Recreation Therapists Assn., MS, Arthritis, Parkinson’s Disease, and Fibromyalgia Support Groups, as well as Independent Living Centers. The programs have been taught through Governors State University and Kankakee Community College, and at annual conferences of the National Qigong Association. The programs are currently incorporated as regular exercise, recreation, and "complementary" addendum therapy with V.A. Medical Centers, Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Supported Living homes in the U.S. and elsewhere. It was featured in the online magazine "Action" from the United Spinal Assn., and Gary was honored as a "Top 20 People with MS Who Inspire Us" by the MS Foundation.
